“Vanna and I would go across and have two or three or six and then come and do the last shows and have trouble recognizing the alphabet. They’re really good tapes to get a hold of,” explained Sajak in the same casual tone he has projected before American television audiences for over 30 years.
As for the dangers that go along with drinking and hosting, he went on to clarify that no one ever mentioned whether or not those shows turned out be any good. He also went to to add that contestants never competed for real money back then — but rather to obtain fake money with which to redeem “cheesy” prizes.
Now, says Sajak, 65, “If I were to inhale the cork of a bottle of wine, I’d probably keel over. I would be hesitant to have anything to drink now — although I’m hammered at this moment.”
